All curves are drawn using a compass and none of them are freehand. Sketch 1: Tracing the outline of the tarantula’s body. Sketch 2: Once the sketch is done, I precisely mark every curve on the body of the spider and divide bigger ones into smaller more accurate curves. Next, I make two tangents on each curve. Then a perpendicular line on each tangent. At the intersection of the two perpendicular lines, I trace a circle using the radius of one of the lines. (Just basic geometry) Sketch 3: Now that I have the the centre and the radius I can get rid of the tangents and perpendiculars that helped me get to the source. I only trace the radius and circle. Design is a process, and sometimes in that process, we have to go through complications and sophistications before we could tone things down and minimise the design. It’s not just that “less is more”, but in order to achieve the Less, we have to go through the complexity of the More.
